[description] => We are beginning a new series called Art and Change, which will focus on how the visual art world to helping to change society, whether on the community level or internationally. Today's topic is Art in Social Media.

Artists, art galleries and everyone in between have engaged in social media, via the internet, during the last 10 years to market art. This is changing the way that not only how art is marketed but also it has made art more accessible to those who may otherwise not enter a gallery or art museum.

To discuss how one art gallery is using social media to market art, we invited Amrita Chandra to talk with us. Amrita is the Founder of tinku gallery, a contemporary art gallery in Toronto, Canada. Tinku gallery represents emerging and mid-career artists from across Canada and the United States working in the mediums of painting, photography and mixed media.

Amrita opened the gallery in May 2008 to make contemporary art more accessible to new collectors without compromising on the quality of art and the caliber of artists that more established collectors expect. As a collector herself, Amrita found most contemporary art galleries unapproachable and opened tinku as a way to broaden the reach of contemporary art for people who are starting their own collections.

For more information about Amrita Chandra and tinku gallery visit the website at www.tinkugallery.com.

[description] => In this episode, we are continuing our Art Collecting 101 Series and we are focusing on current Art Market Trends. With the global economy tanking, auction houses preparing to lay off staff, and huge art fairs selling art for less than they did even during the summer, the question of buying art as an investment has some collectors wondering if it is still worth it. To help us with this topic, we have invited Nicholas Forrest,an art market analyst, art critic and journalist based in Sydney, Australia to join us.

Since completing a BA (Art History and Criticism) degree in 2003, Nicholas has pursued a career in the art world with a specific focus on the art market and has previously worked as an art broker, gallery curator, exhibition assistant and copyright consultant. An interest in art fraud and theft resulted in Nicholas completing further studies in this area the most recent of which has been a Graduate Certificate in Art Authentication through the University of Melbourne.

Nicholas is the founder of www.artmarketblog.com which he started in 2007 in response to the misconceptions and lack of understanding of the art market that he experienced while working as an art broker. Since its creation, the Art Market Blog has received mentions on the New York Times website, the Wall Street Journal website, the Conde Nast Portfolio website, Flash Art Magazine, the Saatchi Gallery website and many others. In between giving his opinion and thoughts on art and the art market to clients as well as on tv, radio, in magazines, newspapers and on websites, Nicholas is a keen art collector of Aboriginal and contemporary art.

Photography is a starting point for many new art collectors because the prices, even for the work of acknowledged masters, are very reasonable when compared to many other art forms. Camille Mosley-Palsey of Pasley Place Photography (www.pasleyplace.com) and Anacostia Fine Art (www.anacostiafineart.com) talks with us to help us learn more about collecting and caring for fine art photography. Camille is a photographer, a former gallery director (Touchstone Gallery in Washington,DC), and independent curator. She is a graduate of the Corcoran College of Art and Design and a Washington,DC native. She recently completed her lastest series of photographs entitled "Mama Love" which features mothers and their babies. The photographs have been exhibited at Artomatic (Washington, DC) and the National Institutes of Health. They will be soon be published into a book by the same name.

Today's topic is Art in Social Media. Artists, art galleries and everyone in between have engaged in social media, via the internet, during the last 10 years to market art.
