    Authentic Art Tip....

    Caring for Your Art

As we endure the hot and humid days of summer, we may often forget that our paintings and art on paper, whether on display or in storage, need a little TLC. Thick, humid air can produce moisture that may alter the look and the quality of original paintings.

The American Insitute for Conservation of Historic and Artistic Works has provided on their website great tips on how to care and store for original paintings. Click here for more information about caring for paintings and here for more information about caring for art on paper.

    Artist of the Month...

    Charlie Jones, Jr.

Charlie has been working with Authentic Art for awhile and one of our first artists that we signed. We interviewed Charlie awhile back but thought it be fun to interview him again. Here's Charlie in his own words...Authentic Art's Artist for July:

Where are you originally from and how long have you been an artist?

I am originally from Youngstown, Ohio. I have been in the Maryland/DC area for the past eight years. I have been an artist for as long as I can remember. I always enjoyed art classes and sketch time

What inspires you in creating your art?

The majority of the time I like to sit down without any predisposed inspired theme. That way the art takes shape from my creative thought at that moment. If I do have a theme in mind for a new piece of artwork then I like to use various types of music to get me in the right frame of mind.

    What's New....

    Call for Art: RED

The Art with Joe Series in conjunction with Authentic Art Consulting and The ThickArt Collaborative presents RED. "RED" is an visual art exhibition about the continued fight against HIV/AIDS. The title RED was chosen to celebrate the familar color that represents the message that much remains to be done in helping those affected with HIV/AIDS and to prevent the spread of HIV.

We have seen many medical breakthroughs and people affected with AIDS are now living longer, healthier lives. However, many are still facing on-going illness, and infection rates are continuing to rise in the United States and across the world. With no cure or vaccination on the horizon, we are likely to be fighting this epidemic for years to come.

    EXHIBITION:

Selected artwork will be exhibited from December 1, 2007 through January 2008. Planned cities for venues include Atlanta, Georgia and the Baltimore/Washington, DC Metro area. On December 1, 2007, in recognition of World AIDS Day, we propose that each venue will host a reception for the artists, an HIV/AIDS Information Session, Spoken Word and a candle light vigil.

    GIVING BACK:

A portion of the sales of artwork will be donated to selected charities dedicated to the fight against HIV/AIDS (such as CARE' s HIV/AIDS Program as part of the Authentic Art's participation in the I AM Powerful Challenge--see below).

    ENTRIES:

Entry information will be announced on the Authentic Art Consulting website by August 1, 2007 or earlier. Submissions will be due on August 31, 2007.

Authentic Art Joins CARE's "I AM Powerful" Challenge

Authentic Art Consulting has joined businesswoman, philanthropist and CARE Ambassador Sheila C. Johnson's singular challenge to individuals and businesses in the United States to empower women in the fight against poverty.

Sheila's I Am Powerful Challenge, launched in June 2007, will match gifts to CARE, an international nonprofit organization,+ dollar for dollar, engaging Americans to connect with women in poor countries and help them break down the barriers of poverty and inequity that have held them back for so long.

CARE's mission is to serve individuals and families in the poorest communities in the world. Drawing strength from our global diversity, resources and experience, they promote innovative solutions and are advocates for global responsibility by:

    • Stengthening capacity for self-help
    • Providing economic opportunity
    • Delivering relief in emergencies
    • Influencing policy decisions at all levels
    • Addressing discrimination in all its forms

Join us in fighting poverty around the world! In the future, look for art events (like the RED Exhibition) and special announcements regarding fundraisers for this cause. For more information about the campaign, click here.
